Birmingham County Walking Football League - Over 57’s Championship

Solihull Moors Walkers 0 Tamworth 1

Sunday 3rd November 2024

In a tightly contested Championship Over 57’s match, Solihull Moors were narrowly defeated by Tamworth, with the lone goal deciding the outcome in favour of Tamworth.

This game marked the return of keeper Keith Batty, who made his presence felt with several solid saves. However, midway through the second half, the Moors defence had a rare lapse, allowing a Tamworth forward to slip through unmarked. Batty had little chance to stop the close-range effort, which gave Tamworth the 1-0 advantage.

Despite a spirited and committed display from Moors, they struggled to find rhythm in their attack, appearing somewhat disjointed at times. Yet, they nearly pulled off a dramatic equaliser in the closing moments. With just four minutes remaining, Brendan Mulcahy struck a well-placed shot that rattled off the post, leaving Moors inches away from a deserved equaliser.

Key Moment: Brendan Mulcahy’s strike in the final minutes symbolised the Moors’ fighting spirit, but the woodwork denied them any points from this hard-fought encounter.

The result was a disappointment for Moors, who left the pitch feeling they might have salvaged a point with a bit more luck. This match, however, highlighted both their resilience and the impact of Batty’s return, giving Moors plenty of positives to build on for the next fixture.

Solihull Moors Walkers 1 Atherstone 0

Sunday 20th October 2024

In what promised to be a tightly contested affair, a depleted Solihull Moors side faced off against a well-organised Atherstone team, with both sides showing attacking intent from the first whistle. The match lived up to expectations, featuring end-to-end action and plenty of goal-scoring chances.

Solihull Moors dominated much of the first half, controlling possession and creating the majority of attacking opportunities. Atherstone, however, were not without their own threat, forcing Solihull’s goalkeeper into several crucial saves. Both keepers had busy afternoons, with impressive shot-stopping on display at either end of the pitch.

The home side thought they had taken the lead twice, only for both goals to be ruled out. Despite these setbacks, Solihull’s persistence paid off in the second half when Brendan Mulcahy finally broke the deadlock. He found the back of the net with a composed finish after a slick passing move, scoring the decisive goal that would ultimately seal the victory.

Though not at their best and missing several key players, Solihull Moors managed to grind out the result and secure a hard-fought 1-0 win. Atherstone made life difficult with their disciplined defensive play, but in the end, Solihull will be pleased to have taken all three points from a tricky fixture. The match was played in good spirits, with both teams contributing to an exciting and competitive encounter.

Solihull Moors Walkers 2 Shrewsbury 99’ers 1

Sunday 6th October 2024

The first game of the season saw Solihull Moors kick off in style, proudly debuting their new kit and sponsor against Shrewsbury 99'ers. The match opened with Moors dominating possession, pinning Shrewsbury deep into their own half through a relentless high press and tireless work rate. Despite their dominance, Solihull couldn’t break the deadlock, and the first half ended 0-0, with Shrewsbury managing to hold firm under the pressure.

The second half came alive, with both goalkeepers making a series of world-class saves to keep the game level. However, the constant pressure from Solihull Moors paid off as Brendan Mulcahy broke through with a clinical finish to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Shrewsbury, though largely on the back foot, showed resilience and fought back to level the score at 1-1. Despite the equaliser, Solihull Moors refused to settle for a draw, pouring forward in search of a winner. Their persistence was rewarded once again, as Mulcahy, in expert fashion, found the back of the net for his second goal of the game, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

A special mention must go to referee Simon Dyer, who allowed the game to flow, contributing to what was a thrilling contest. If this match is a sign of things to come, we are in for an exciting season full of high-quality football, energy, and commitment. Both teams deserve credit for what could already be a contender for game of the season.
